Check out Cherokee Rock Village
Cherokee Rock Village is located on look out mountain high above the town of Leesburg. Located in Sand Rock Alabama the rock village is a favorite for rock climbers from all over the country and even attracts climbers from around the world. The huge rock formations tower above beautiful weiss lake and the privides a breath taken sunrise from the high view.
The Village has primitive camping and during the summer months will be packed with campers every weekend. Be sure to bring what you need for your camping trip! There is no water but they have a porta potty! There are gas stations down the mountain about a 15 minute drive from camp. Remember it is a dry county and you will likely get a visit from the county.
Horse Pens 40
Horse Pens 40 is located in Steele Alabama on Sand Mountain on a 40 acre historic nature park. Awesome Boulders surround the area that is a haven for rock climbers from all over. If you are looking for hiking, picnicing, climbing, site seeing, or just want some fresh air this the perfect place.
Day use is $5 and camping is $10
They have clean bathrooms, a store, restaurant, and always a smiling face welcoming! They do not allow dogs or Glass at the park or in the camping area.
Bucks Pocket
Bucks Pocket state park is located on Sand Mountain is a natural pocket that host many visitors each each. Point rock is a great place to rappel and explore the natural rock formation. All you have to do is get a permit from the park office located down in the pocket!
The rock walls offer a wide variety of challenges from free falling to nice flat walls to walk. There are plenty of tie points so don’t worry about not finding a good wall. Just from looking it looks like plenty of drops around 100 feet.
